Video Evenings
With the Video Evenings in the months leading up to the start of the festival from mid-November 2024 to mid-March 2025, people of Bonn had the opportunity to encounter video artworks from V.20 in previews at various locations in Bonn.
In a club room of Bonn's subculture, in a private living room, a multi-generational house, the Mineralogical Museum in Poppelsdorf Castle, the Robert-Wetzlar-Berufskolleg and the Galerie Clement. On each of the six evenings, a work from V.20 was shown and discussed intensively. Some evenings began with INTRODUCTIONS, a format for an artistic approach to the artworks. This was always followed by having a snack together.
The venues resonate with the video works of VIDEONALE.20 in terms of content and theme: in the multi-generational house, for example, we engaged in an intergenerational dialog on the topicality of VALIE EXPORT's video work SYNTAGMA (1984), which addresses the relationship between bodies read as female and their representation in the media. In the Mineralogical Museum, we showed Mareike Bernien and Alex Gerbaulet's work SONNE UNTER TAGE, which deals with uranium mining in Saxony and Thuringia during the GDR era and its social, health and ecological consequences, in the middle of the museum rooms, where uranium ore is exhibited, among other things. On Human Rights Day, we discussed STÄNDIG AUF DEM SPRUNG SEIN by Marcel Odenbach in the auditorium of the Unesco cultural school Robert-Wetzlar-Kolleg and looked at the phenomenon of forced departure.
