Performative City Walks

During VIDEONALE.20, unlike in previous editions of the festival, video works were not only shown at the Kunstmuseum Bonn, but also at six unusual exhibition locations in Bonn's city center: in a former store, a club, a project space, a van, a former centrifuge and in a shop window.

INTER–RUPTION
With Evamaria Schaller
Performative city walk

During the performative city walk ‘Inter–ruption’ with Evamaria Schaller, we took queer-feminist perspectives on Bonn's urban space. Based on VALIE EXPORT's work SYNTAGMA, the artist developed interventions in public space for the audience, group actions and questions about the representation of different bodies in public. The city walk led along the exhibition stations of VIDEONALE.20, including Club Blow Up with Julia Scher's work LIP SYNC 2025, or Atelier Meissner with the work I AM THE FIRST LESBIAN I EVER MET by Dani and Sheila ReStack.

DEM ALLTÄGLICHEN LAUSCHEN
With Nico Sauer
Performative city walk

A sonic city walk, on the way to which we explored the works of the VIDEONALE.20, which focused on hearing and listening. These included the works FUTURE PERFECT CONTINOUS by Angelica Mesiti in Bonn's Zentrifgue, THE ARCHISONIC by Mark Bain in the Trinkpavillon Bad Godesberg and a sound performance by composer and performer Nico Sauer in a local grocery store. In his listening performance DIE NATUR DER KÜHLKETTE, Sauer invited the audience to lean into the vibrating surfaces of their surroundings and expose themselves to the soundscapes of everyday life.

RELEASE YOUR INNER CARE
With katzeundkrieg
Performative city walk

You haven't called your parents or your friends in a while? You look at your cell phone in a crowded bus when an old lady gets on? You complain about the world and do nothing? – If you can answer YES to more than one of these sentences, then it's time for you to RELEASE YOUR INNER CARE!!!

On the way through Bonn's city center and old town, the performance duo katzeundkrieg presented the audience with performative exercises designed to awaken and strengthen their own ability to care. Participants in the walk cleaned benches in public spaces together or carried each other through the shopping street.
