ARCHITECTURE

Exhibition architecture transfers narratives into space and makes them tangible in spatial atmospheres. For each festival, the Videonale develops its own architecture for the staging of moving images in the exhibition context together with an exhibition designer. For the architecture of VIDEONALE.20, we are once again working with exhibition architect Ruth Lorenz from maaskant Berlin.

VIDEONALE.20 Billboards of Art – Resilience Spaces

VALIE EXPORT's film Syntagma, in which VALIE EXPORT associates her body with city edges, is the spark for the concept of the exhibition architecture for VIDEONALE.20.

A pink-colored room skin stretches softly in the room. It reminds us of the primal human space, which is fragile and protects us in equal measure. A resilient spatial shell that connects us all. The billboards of art stand in front of the room skin. Angular spatial bodies that support the projections on their constructions and translate fragments of the city's architecture into the museum space. However, the billboards do not confront visitors with large-format advertising, but rather open up artistic views of our world. Historically retrospective positions intertwine with contemporary works in surprising constellations. Order and chaos, wildness and silence, intimacy or protest – together with installations, the Conical Cinema and the Videonale Circus, the billboards form a performative parcours. The exhibition architecture of VIDEONALE.20 samples bodies with the ethereal, clashes contrasts and invites discovery and exploration.
