The program

April 11 to May 18, 2025 | The prologue starts on 16.11.2024

In the VIDEONALE.20 PROLOGUE, you can encounter video artworks from V.20 at various locations in Bonn even before the start of the festival (April 11–May 18, 2025, opening: April 10, 2025) from November 16, 2024 to March 13, 2025.

We are organizing public VIDEO EVENINGS in a club room of Bonn's subculture, private living rooms, the Mineralogical Museum in Poppelsdorf Castle, the Robert-Wetzlar-Berufskolleg and the Galerie Clement. On each of the six evenings, a work from V.20 will be shown and discussed in depth. Some evenings begin with INTRODUCTIONS, artistic approaches to the artworks. This is always followed by having a meal together.

Would you like to take part in one of the video evenings? Participation in the video evenings is free of charge, registration is required by contacting Annette Ziegert, ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants is limited.

Video Evening

Somewhat hidden next to the Jet petrol station in Bonn's Nordstadt district is Kulturkraft Bonn e.V. The association is committed to fair club culture. The clubhouse is regularly transformed into a party club. We start the club night in November with a moderated video evening on “Tugging Diary” and “Muted Bridges” by Yan Wai Yin. In the videos, she reflects on the mass protests in her home city of Hong Kong in 2019 and 2020 against the growing influence of China in the form of graffiti, posters from rallies and photos – and their sudden disappearance – on a pedestrian bridge. The videos will be shown in the original Cantonese with German and Chinese subtitles.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Participants can attend the club night afterwards free of charge.

Registration is required with Annette Ziegert: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.

Video Evening

Wahlverwandtschaften e.V. invites you to a VIDEO EVENING in their communal living room on Thursday, November 28, 2024. Wahlverwandtschaften Bonn e.V. is a voluntary initiative that has founded intergenerational house communities in which people live independently and in solidarity with their neighbors. “Syntagma” by VALIE EXPORT, one of the pioneers of performance and media art, is at the center of the evening. The protagonist is a woman who sees herself as a doppelganger in the mirror image of social reality. After the moderated discussion, we will eat together, something with noodles.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Registration is required with Annette Ziegert: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.

For the third VIDEO EVENING, the Robert-Wetzlar-Berufskolleg is opening its beautiful auditorium at the corner of Kölner Straße and Kaiser Karl-Ring for us. The Unesco project school educates around 2,200 students from over 50 countries of origin at three locations. We are dedicating the evening to Marcel Odenbach's video artwork “Ständig auf dem Sprung sein”, which has lost none of its topicality 30 years after its creation. We will start the evening with an introduction by Annabel Fabry, Hella Kunz, Daniel Meißner and Lea Nießeri.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Registration is required with Annette Ziegert: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.

The fourth VIDEO EVENING takes us to the Mineralogical Museum in Poppelsdorf Palace. The museum is one of the oldest natural history museums in the Rhineland. The exhibition rooms with over 6,000 minerals, meteorites and gemstones resemble a cabinet of curiosities. Among the exhibits is uranium ore. The mining of uranium in Thuringia and Saxony during the GDR era is the subject of the video “Sonne unter Tage” by Mareike Bernien and Alex Gerbaulet, which we will be showing in the middle of the museum on this evening.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Registration is required with Annette Ziegert: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.

Touching without touching: At the center of the fifth VIDEO ABENDA is “Nazarbazi” (in German: Spiel der Blicke). In a collage of film excerpts from Iranian cinema after 1979, in which the touching of women and men is forbidden, Maryam Tafakory finds an impressive aesthetic form of expressing love and desire in the face of censorship. Anke Mebold and Paul Wolff Metternich invite you to this VIDEO EVENING in their cozy living room. Following the viewing of the film and the moderated discussion, we will have a picnic together in the living room.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Registration is required with Annette Ziegert: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.

Video Evening

The sixth VIDEO EVENING with a sneak preview of VIDEONALE.20 takes place in the exhibition “Mother” at Galerie Clement: A video artist becomes a mother. In image comparisons with natural phenomena, she approaches the profound changes she experiences as a person and artist. A time of disorder and reorganization, in which she has the impression that she can no longer find her way back to herself. The desire for intense life experiences gives way to an irrepressible longing to simply be allowed to sleep. The state childcare system promises relief. But what understanding of care and framework conditions for individual development underlies the way in which the state organizes childcare? Together with other women, she calls for alternatives.

Participation in the video evening is free of charge. Registration is required at: ziegert@videonale.org. The number of participants for the video evening is limited.
